lorry tarps

These lorry curtains - or tarps, have had a hard life on the road. They are made of seriously tough stuff and have a lot more life left in them other than retiring into landfill. Each tarp has surface wear and markings to evidence their many journeys, all of which make each bag totally unique and a one off. They are thoroughly cleaned - so despite some looking dirty - they aren’t. After being cleaned, they are cut to pattern and sew into bags. It’s a bit like trying to put a very small pair of pants on an uncooperative elephant at times. But the graphics and colours are great and with them being as hard as nails - can withstand pretty much anything you throw at or in them.

It’s water repellent , very tough, hardwearing and totally recycled.

a new lease of life

It takes A LOT of work and time to turn these tarps into something new. But the main focus of lakesack is to hand make bags in Cumbria using recycled materials.

The tarps are collected then stripped down, removing all straps and fastenings from their former life on a lorry. Cut into manageable size pieces. They head back up the M6 to Cumbria where they are thoroughly cleaned, rinsed by the local weather, cut to pattern then sewed up to make one off - totally unique bags.
